Yet again, Thames Water have released sewage into the river from the Chesham Sewage Treatment Works. We received no notification from Thames Water and have received limited information when we emailed them asking whether a discharge event had occurred:
"We believe we discharged storm flows from site yesterday early morning [Sunday] and for some hours. We are not discharging storm flows this morning, but our storm tanks are full."
This meant we had no opportunity to advise people accessing the river, including a number of volunteer groups.
We have since received this text message from Thames Water:
"Please be aware of intermittent discharges from Chesham STW due to Storm Dennis."
If you are a dog walker, volunteer, or anyone thinking of accessing the river downstream of the sewage treatment works in Chesham, we would advise that you avoid the river at the present time.
